of the few bands in Cuba, who did not go all the way along the
Timba route, is back with a swinging son release.
"Mi
linda habanera" comes out the gate with a melody
and hook that stays with you. One of the great qualities about
a great band leader is the ability to re-record their older material
and make it better, that’s the case with "Y qué
tu quieres que te den?", a song that was a already a
hit.
This
newer version comes complete with a coro chant celebrating the
Orishas that will convert anyone into the Santería religion,
at least for the 11 mintues plus length of the song! I don’t
think anyone could touch this song again and that includes Mr.
Alvarez. He has outdone himself!
Adalberto
keeps proving that all pretenders to his throne need not apply.
This man and his band keeps getting stronger with each release.
And by having his daughter, Dorgeris Alvarez as musical co-director,
his legacy is sealed.

de los pocos grupos en Cuba que no siguió el camino de
la Timba, está de vuelta con una grabación nueva
de son con swing.
"Mi
linda habanera" empieza con una melodía
y un gancho que se mete en tu cabeza. Una de las calidades de
un gran líder de orquesta es la habilidad de re-grabar
su propio material por muy antiguo que este sea y mejorarlo. Este
es el caso de, "Y qué tu quieres que te den?",
una canción que ya era todo un éxito.
La
nueva versión tiene un coro que celebra a las Orishas y
es capaz de convertir a cualquiera a la religión Santera,
o al menos por los 11 minutos que dura la canción! Dudo
que haya algún músico que sea capaz de mejorar esta
canción y eso incluye al Señor Alvarez, pues realmente
se ha pasado!
Adalberto
sigue comprobando que todos los pretendientes a su trono no tienen
porqué molestarse. El y su conjunto siguen más fuertes
que nunca con cada disco nuevo. Además, al tener a su hija,
Dorgeris Alvarez como su co-directora musical, tiene garantizado
su legado. |
