Colombia
has been ruling South America with its salsa releases for the
past 10 years. Well, they might be getting competition from neighboring
Venezuela.
Bailatino
is a tight - and I mean tight - unit. The band's horn section
is straight up trombones and one flute, obviously paying tribute
to their mentors, Eddie Palmieri and Manny Oquendo.
Dancers
are going to get exhausted with this one from the opening number
"Conocí tu falsedad". You know you are not listening
to radio music. The trombones are in your face, like if they were
driving a mad truck and that piano solo, damn this is salsa.
And to drive the point home, they cover Palmieri's "Muñeca".
Vocalist Marcial Isturiz has that old school flavor that should
make Ismael Quintana proud (he was the original singer of this
tune).
Then
you have the piano solo of Mr. Alberto Crespo who has studied
Palmieri's licks for licks that will wave nostalgic for old fans
and create new memories for younger fans.
But
the tour de force song here is the title track. The cut
has distinct coros that could be independent songs in their own
right. This song is so on point you'll be singing the coros for
days after your first listen. And again, did I mention the trombones?
I
have been listening to this band live for quite some time now
and was wondering, when will they do a recording? Finally it's
here and the world will be a better place with it. This is the
Trombone release of the year!

10 años, pero es muy posible que tendrán que competir
con su vecino Venezuela.
Bailatino
es un conjunto bien apretado. La sección de bronces está
compuesta de trombones y una flauta, obviamente haciendo tributo
a sus ídolos, Eddie Palmieri y Manny Oquendo.
Los
bailadores quedarán exhaustos con el tema "Conocí
tu falsedad" con el cual se darán cuenta que no están
escuchando a la radio. Los trombones suenan como un camión
afinado y el sólo de piano... pues eso sí es salsa!
Y
para subrayar, interpretan al tema "Muñeca" de
Eddie Palmieri. El vocalista, Marcial Isturiz, tiene ese sabor
a la vieja escuela de salsa que debe orgullecer a Ismael Quintana
(fue el cantante original de ese tema).
Y
para colmo, tienes al sólo de piano del Sr. Alberto Crespo
que ha estudiado los "licks" de Palmieri y le dará
un ataque de nostalgia para los fanáticos de antaño,
creando a la vez memorias para los nuevos fanáticos.
Pero
la canción "cumbre" de este álbum es el
titular. Ese tema tiene coros tan distintos que podrían
convertirse en canciones propias. Son tan sabrosos que te encontrarás
cantando los coros por días después de haber escuchado
ese álbum por primera vez. ¿Y mencioné los
trombones?
He
estado escuchando a ese conjunto por harto tiempo y siempre quería
saber cuándo iban a sacar una grabación. Por fin
está aquí y el mundo está mejor por eso!
