Holy
Cow Batman, we got a winner! To pay a tribute to a legend like
Beny Moré is cool but to pull it off without
a hitch, is another thing and this band, as Emeril would say,
"kicked it to another notch" This band is so tight,
it makes you wonder if this is where O.J. Simpson
went for his glove.
The brass section is ripping this thing apart, whether a Bolero
or Son, they are on top, reliving the era that people at my age
missed.
But
as good as the band is, what makes this recording special is one
man: Israel kantor. What a voice! He transforms
"Santa Isabel" into a party anthem all over
again. His improvisations are powerful and with moña (not
screaming for the hell of it like Domingo). And just when your
booty is sweating to a T, he goes right into "Oh! Vida,"
a bolero that will stop you right in your tracks and make you
listen to this man croon. Damn!
All
the great Moré cuts are here, "Maracaibo
Oriental", "Mata Siguaraya" and "Bonito
y sabroso," and they all receive the royal treatment.
But as I was listening to "Yiriyiribon" it
brought back memories of Celia Cruz singing this
cut and made me think what a great duet Celia
and Beny would've been improvising on this cut.
This
show was recorded in Miami and I know they had a ball with this
one. The cd states Volúmen 1. And I say, bring on Volume
2 and a DVD for that matter! Skip everything else on your list
and pick this one! |

como lo es Beny Moré está de moda,
pero hacerlo sin problemas es otra cosa Y este conjunto,
como dice el famoso Chef Emeril, "Lo pateó a otro
nivel". Está tan apretado que te pone a pensar si
fue aquí a donde O.J. Simpson fue para
conseguir su guante.
La
sección de bronces rompe con todo, sea bolero o son, ellos
están encima, reviviendo aquella época que las personas
de mi edad no pudieron ver.
Pero
por más bueno que sea el conjunto, lo que hace que esta
grabación sea especial es un hombre: Israel Kantor.
Qué voz! El transforma "Santa Isabel"
a un himno festivo de nuevo. Sus improvisaciones son poderosos
y con moña (no gritando por gusto como Domingo). Y justo
cuando te tiene acalorado, comienza con "Oh! Vida",
un bolero que te paralizará y te obligará a escuchar
la dulce voz que tiene. Ñó!
Todos
los temas famosos de Moré están
aquí, "Maracaibo Oriental", "Mata
Siguaraya" y "Bonito y sabroso" y
a todos les da un toque mágico. A medida que escuchaba
"Yiriyiribon" pensaba qué rico hubiera
sido escuchar esta canción a dúo entre Celia
y Beny improvisando.
Este
show fue grabado en Miami y sé que se divertieron con él.
