On
his second solo release for Envidia records, Ciso Guanche
takes us to a forgotten sound, the swinging salsa of
the mid-80's, ala Willie Rosario, Bobby Valentin
and Adalberto Alvarez (who he sang for). No gimmicks,
no bravado, just straight in your face SALSA.
"Nadie
como tu" reminds you of Junior Toledo with
Willie Rosario, not in tone, but in flavor. The
chorus, the trumpet, the trombone and one of the deep voices of
today, make this song a true delight and that's just the first
cut.
Reliving
his days with Adalberto, the remake of, "Y borracho me
casé" has a piano solo by Angel Labori that is
pure fire. And if I had to pick a hit song, "¡Qué
maravilla tu boca!" would be it. The hooks on this song
will have you singing along till the end. This is commercial salsa
at it's best.
But
the self penned "A mis hijos" is an emotional
and sentimental piece that a father declares to his children.
It makes you appreciate all those dads who have stuck by their
children through thick and thin (as they should).
While
I was a bit in shock with the sound of this release coming from
Cuba, it's also a reminder that just as Cubans created music forms,
they also pay attention to what's happening outside of Cuba. This
recording can stand up to any of those masterpieces created by
Rosario, Valentin and Alvarez. |
En
su segundo álbum con el sello discográfico Envidia,
Ciso Guanche nos lleva de vuelta a un sonido
casi olvidado, la salsa con swing de los años 80, estilo
Willie Rosario, Bobby Valentin y Adalberto
Álvarez, con quien cantó. Sin trucos, ni
bravado, simplemente salsa pura.
"Nadie
como tú" te recuerda a Junior Toledo
con Willie Rosario, no en tono, sino en sabor.
El coro, la trompeta y el trombón junto a una de las pocas
voces profundas de hoy en día, hacen de esa canción
una delicia... siendo apenas el primer tema.
Reviviendo
sus tiempos con Adalberto, su reinterpretación de "Y
borracho me casé" tiene un sólo de piano
que es fuego puro. Y si tuviera que elegir, "¡Qué
maravilla tu boca!" sería el tema de éxito.
Los ganchos en esta canción te mantendrán tarareando
hasta el final. Este álbum es lo mejor de la salsa comercial.
Pero
el tema llamado "A mis hijos" es una canción
emocional y sentimental - una declaración de un padre a
sus hijos. Te hace apreciar aquellos padres que han apoyado incondicionalmente
a sus hijos (como debe ser).
Aunque
me sorprendió que este tipo de sonido saliera de Cuba,
consta que tal como los cubanos crean formas musicales, también
prestan atención a lo que acontece fuera de Cuba. Esta
grabación se hace valer, igual que cualquiera de las obras
maestras creadas por Rosario, Valentín
y Álvarez. |
