se quiere que las nuevas generaciones conozcan algo de la vieja
escuela, lo que se hace hoy en día es un remix. Algunas veces el
resultado es horrendo pero en otras, como este lanzamiento, funciona.
Armados
con alrededor de 12 diferentes DJ's la gente de Fania (¿Nueva Fania?)
se quiere asegurar que este legado perdure. Aaron Jerome
entrega una interpretación vibrante de la canción
titular de Pete Rodríguez, mientras que Quantic
convierte Boogaloo de Johnny (Pacheco) en un reggae ligero
del cual "Pass the Dutchie" de Musical
Youth estaría orgulloso.
Esta
recopilación de remixes es muy sólida y muchas de
sus canciones funcionan, pero las más sobresalientes son
Sinden del "Fever" de La Lupe,
house extravaganza, retándote a que te quedes inmóvil! También está "Mi gente" de Lavoe, bajo la versión
de Louie Vega que mezcla diferentes versiones
de la canción logrando un sonido totalmente diferente.
Los
DJs de Fania le han dedicado bastante tiempo a este proyecto y
eso se nota. Tal vez ahora puedan trabajar en algún
otro material inédito (si es que existe) de nuestros salseros
favoritos. |
If
you want to introduce the new generation to some old school stuff,
folks usually remix it. Sometimes the results are just awful and
other times like on this release, it works.
Armed
with over 12 different DJs, the people at Fania (new Fania?) want
to make sure this legacy lasts. Aaron Jerome
gives an up tempo party vibe to Pete Rodríguez’s
title track, while Quantic turns Boogaloo
de Johnny (Pacheco) into a light reggae feel that would make
Musical Youth's "Pass the Dutchie" proud.
This
remix compilation is pretty solid with much of the songs working,
but the standout tracks are Sinden's remix of
La Lupe's "Fever", which is a house music extravaganza.
I dare you to stand still! And then there’s Louie
Vega's version of Lavoe's "Mi gente"
mixing different versions of the song, making it sound totally
new.
The
DJs and Fania put some time into this project, and it shows.
Maybe now they can work on releasing some unreleased materials
(if they exist) from our favorite salseros. |
