Ok, now that I got that off my chest, this CD is the rave in Cuba right
now and rightly so! This woman can sing. The stuff she did with Bamboleo
was good but this is another level entirely.
La Reina, Celia Cruz, has had many tributes but nothing like this, not
from a young talent.
This awesome CD begins with the classic "Bemba colorá." Most of
the song is sung in a Rumba style and after three minutes, it delves
into a Son Montuno a la Celia Cruz days with the Fania All Stars. Did
I mention go and get this CD now?
Her cover of "La rosa", demonstrates how comfortable she feels singing
boleros. You can close your eyes and imagine her singing in small intimate
jazz club. Her voice carries this tune to ecstasy. Cuba can add another
great vocalist to their rich musical history.
If you expected the entire CD to be Timba, you are wasting your time.
This woman goes from Son, Bolero, Rumba, New York salsa, name it.
Haila is not the only young talent on this scorching CD. Issac Delgado
is the musical director and he does a phenomenal job.
Paulito duets on the track "Nadie se salva de la rumba." His vocals
are not as powerful as Haila's but he compliments her nonetheless with
his charm.
But the duet between her and Mario Rivera (Mayito de Los Van Van) is
worth the purchase of this CD alone. They redo "Me voy contigo", and
they show off their vocal skills. Note for note; soneo for soneo; And
you can tell they are having fun. Plus, I'm sure Mayito had fun singing
in front of such a beautiful woman. Did I mention go and get
this CD now?
The maturity of Haila's voice and talent shows that she's ready to take
on the world. Question is, is the world ready for her?
