Mientras lo demás del mundo ha abrazado a la timba, los EEUU se ha quedado atrás. Los grupos que tocan timba y viven en gringolandia están que arden, como Tiempo Libre, El Pikete, etc. Ahora podemos añadir a Havana NRG a la lista.
Desde Texas (sí, Texas!), este conjunto mezcla el merengue (Se me va la vida) con el timbatón (La juguetona) con la bachata (Niña) con un leve cha cha chá (Juana, con un sólo de violín por la pianista/directora musical, Mariela Suárez). Pero son los números de timba que ponen a bailar a la gente, como "Dime si te vas" (con cambios estilo Charanga Habanera) y "La herencia" que convierten este CD en algo indispensable.
Es fenomenal escuchar a los jóvenes inyectar nueva vida a la música y aún más importante, haciéndolo con materia nueva (no hay covers).

While the rest of the world has embraced timba, the US has lagged behind. However, the bands that do play timba here (Tiempo Libre, El Pikete, etc.) are smoking hot and we can now add Havana NRG.
Hailing from Texas (yes, Texas!) this band mixes everything from merengue (Se me va la vida) to timbaton (La juguetona) to bachata (Niña) to a light cha cha chá (Juana, with a very short violin solo by pianist/musical director Mariela Suárez). But it's the straight up timba dance floor scorchers "Díme si te vas" (with twists and turns ala Charanga Habanera) and "La herencia" that make this cd a must.
It's great to hear young folks injecting new life into the music and more importantly doing it with new material (no covers!).
