singers, then you should skip this cd. However, if you want a
gritty, dirty and sticky sound, this is for you.
The
title track kicks things off, transporting you to a smoky room,
dancing so close that your hips can create fire. This is a very
stripped down son, so that there’s no need to be
gyrating as casino dancers do.
"Son de Nueva York" is another winner with
veteran José Mangual, Jr. (he sings all
the songs) providing some deliciously, inspiring soneos.
"Apóyala" with it’s trumpets blaring,
urges the listener and dancer to support this music by buying
the releases and to never forget that whatever we call it, it
is still Cuban music.
The
fastest song on this recording is "Rumbero"
and man, what a scorcher! Here the band gives plenty of room to
the musicians to stretch out and do their thing. New York veteran
Víctor Santos shows his skills on the
piano, demonstrating why he’s one of the most sought-after
studio musicians in the Big Apple.
There
was a time when musicians would kill to be on a major label, nowadays
with labels dying and not promoting real music, these artists
find themselves promoting and producing their own stuff independently.
While
music lovers who venture out looking for recordings beyond the
scope of radio get enriched, the masses that are programmed to
listen only to the radio or pretty faces or major labels' recordings,
are losing out on work of arts like the Mangual
family's "Abril in Paris".

Si
tu gusto musical se basa en producciones solo de moda y cantantes
bonitos, entonces tienes que dejar pasar este CD. Sin embargo,
si lo que quieres es un sonido resuelto, cachondo y pegajoso,
éste es para ti.
La
canción que le da título a éste comienza
transportándote a un salón en tinieblas donde bailas
tan cerca de tu pareja que tus caderas pueden crear fuego. Este
es un Son muy sencillo, por eso no hay necesidad de girar como
los bailarines de Casino lo hacen.
“Son
de Nueva York” es otra ganadora con el veterano
José Mangual, Jr. (quien canta toda la canción)
proveyendo Sones deliciosos e inspiradores.
“Apóyala”
con sus trompetas estridentes, urge al oyente y al bailador a
apoyar esta música mediante la compra del CD y nunca olvidando
que, como sea que le llamen, aún es música Cubana.

canción más rápida de este CD es “Rumbero”
y sí señor, que calor!! Aquí la banda da
suficiente espacio a los músicos para extenderse y hacer
lo suyo. Víctor Santos, veterano de Nueva
York, muestra su habilidad al piano probando porqué es
uno de los músicos de estúdio con más demanda
en la Gran Manzana.
Hubo
alguna véz un momento en el tiempo cuando los músicos
hubieran matado por pertenecer a una casa disquera, hoy en día
con éstas muriendo y no promoviendo música real,
estos artistas se encuentran a sí mismos promoviendo y
produciendo independientemente su propio material.
Mientras
los amantes de la música quienes se aventuran a buscar
más allá de lo que la radio toca se ven enriquecidos
musicalmente, las masas que estan programadas sólo para
escuchar la radio o seguir caras bonitas o a las grandes casas
disqueras, salen perdiendo en cuestión de obras de arte
tales como "Abril en París"
de la familia Mangual. Tienes que escucharlo!!
