Tributo a Joe Cuba
Alfredo Naranjo (Latin world)
Reviewed
by
Alfredo
Naranjo has been recording and guesting on other
artists recordings for years, but this is perhaps his
most accessible recording. Hailing from Venezuela and
with an affinity to the vibraphone, he has created a
smoking release.
Medley:
Oriente, Juan Ramón takes you back to the
60's, when Joe Cuba was hot with Cheo and Jimmy
Sabater. Edgar Quijada does a spectacular job. Even without
a horn section, the band is in full swing.
Guest
vocalist and fellow countryman, Orlando Watussi,
gives his vocals a workout on tracks like Tiene Saoco,
Mujer Divina and Guaracha y Bembé.
His vocal phrasing compliments Alfredo's playing, and
vice versa.
But
not all songs are covers; Naranjo composed a couple
of tracks paying homage to Joe. These songs maintain
that 60's feel and integrity.
One
of the best things about this tribute is the fact that
Mr. Joe Cuba is alive and he can enjoy this wonderful
release.
