Unfortunately,
there isn't something happening on the club scene every single
night of the week, like in some other cities. However,
if you are here when nothing is going on in the clubs, check
out the schools lists for Broward
(Ft. Lauderdale area) and Miami
and take a class. Learn to dance the Miami style of
salsa, known as Casino,
or the group version, danced in a round, called Rueda
de Casino.

would think that Miami and south Florida in general would be
the "Mecca" of salsa, but that is definitely NOT the
case. There is more salsa in London,
England or Buenos Aires,
Argentina, or any number of other cities around the world
than in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. Go figure.

This place used to be so-so, but has improved quite a bit. If
you arrive before 10, you will hear mostly Merengue and Bachata,
but after 10:30, the DJ's play salsa around 40% of the time.

El Sacerdote de la Rumba and his group LaFé,
playing a variety of tunes which include Danzón, Son,
Guaracha, Guajiras, Boleros and of course, Cuban Rumba (Guaguancó,
Columbia and Yambú.) Never a cover, domestic beers $2,
free wine for the ladies from 9 to 10 p.m. and $5 Mojitos. Always
a nightly dinner special. Party starts at 9 p.m.

find the oldest and largest Rueda in Miami. New Location:

nights. Note: Don't fret if the locals aren't friendly...
it isn't anything personal …they are that way with everyone.

Fridays, Israel Kantor
and his group. Besides his role as a true sonero, Israel was
one of the lead singers for Los Van Van, Cuba's
most avant-garde group since the 60's. At La Bodeguita, he combines
the rhythms of Son, together with Timba,
making it an exciting evening.

ser un sonero verdadero, Israel fue uno de los cantantes principales
de Los Van Van, el grupo cubano más

combina los ritmos de Son, junto con la Timba,
convirtiéndolo en una noche muy divertida.
Saturdays: In Broward: The Paladium in Margate. Get in your car, fill it with gas
and head on up to The Paladium in Margate.
It is worth the drive. They have two beautiful wooden
dance floors, great music and great dancers. Located
in Peppertree Plaza with the entrance on Sample Road, behind
the Publix, facing 441, or State Road 7).
Ladies Free before 11 and free drinks all night long!

Paladium en Margate.
Móntate en el auto, llénalo de gasolina y pégate el viaje largo
hasta The Paladium, en Margate. Vale la
pena, pues hay muy buena música, dos pistas de baile (de madera)
y muy buenos bailadores. Ubicado en la Plaza Peppertree,
con la entrada sobre Sample Road, detrás del Publix, mirando
a la 441, o State Road 7). Las damas entran gratis antes de
las 11 y toman gratis la noche entera!
Sundays:
Usually a night folks stay home, but you'll find several hundred
of all ages at the Gold Coast Ballroom between
5 and 8 p.m. when they play mostly Salsa. After
that you might get one salsa in between 3 hours of fox trot,
paso doble and other more serene ballroom style dance music.
Don't be late! Be there at 5! This is the only non-smoking venue
I know of in South Florida. Iced tea, water and coffee
with a sandwich and a piece of cake included in the price of
entry... BYOB - they do not serve alcohol.

Cuban food you should definitely make the trek
down to Havana Harry's on Le Jeune
near US-1 (around 46th Street and 42nd Avenue). Of course, there
is always Versailles and La
Carreta (open 24-7) on 8th Street near 37th or 38th Avenue.
There's a great Thai restaurant across the street
from Versailles. For Seafood go to Bahamas
Fish Grill on 8th Street near 62nd Avenue.
You could get great Italian food at Rosinella's
on Lincoln between Drexel and Pennsylvania in Miami Beach. Spanish food check out "JJJJJ"
(Cinco Jotas) on 40th Street and 72nd
Avenue. Also Casa Juancho on 8th Street
and 16th Avenue. Good Brazilian food at Picanha
Grill (I think that is the name) at 71st and Collins in Miami
Beach, and Porcao's in the 4 Ambassadors
for good Brazilian grilled meats (South Bayshore Drive between 8th
and 12th).

you've tried some real Southern-style Bar-b-que! Although
this is a franchise, they are also really great! They have
melt-in-your-mouth, falling off the bones ribs to die for!

style, southern style and hot, and even hotter! The one located
in Plantation (a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale) is owned by two
Colombian brothers!

Backwoods BBQ Si estás visitando el sur de los EEUU, no te puedes ir sin
haber probado un plato típico, llamado "bar-b-que"
(un tipo de carne asada, pero muy, muy rica y distinta!) Aunque
este restaurante es una cadena, también son muy buenos!
Tienen costillar cocinada a la perfección... de tal forma que
la carne se cae solita del hueso! Tienen salsas estilo Tejano,
de Carolina del Norte, de Memphis, del sur, picante y más picante.
El que está ubicado en Plantation (un suburbio de Ft. Lauderdale)
es de dos hermanos colombianos!
