Jimmy
Bosch y su grupo abrieron la décimocuarta edición
del Heineken Jazz Fest en San Juan, que se celebró
del 3 al 6 de junio 2004, emulando otros festivales de jazz en
Europa que suelen tener una noche de presentación salsera.
En esta ocasión Jimmy Bosch con su salsa
progresiva y salsa "dura" demostró que es rica
en descargas y que sus músicos cuentan con el espacio y
la libertad de improvisar, creando un clima de poderío
musical.
Con
el anfiteatro Tito Puente lleno, a pesar de ser jueves, deleitó
al público con los temas "Otra oportunidad"
del album "Soneando el trombón"
continuando con "La cacharra" del album "Salsa
dura". En la interpretación de "Speak
no evil", de su nueva producción, Bosch
brindó una imponente descarga, demostrando porqué
actualmente es el máximo exponente del trombón,
precedido de un diálogo musical entre sus metales Angie
Machado, Jeff Lederes, y Mauricio Smith
creando el éxtasis musical de la noche.
La
interpretación del ecuatoriano Juan Rey Bayona
fue de excelencia, con una tremenda dicción y el dominio
del arte del soneo. Este joven cantante es tremenda promesa para
el género salsero que en la actualidad esta careciendo
de buenos soneros. |
Jimmy
Bosch and his group opened the fourteenth annual Heineken
Jazz Fest in San Juan from June 3rd through June 6th,
2004, following in the footsteps of other Jazz festivals in Europe
which tend to have a salsa night. This time, Jimmy Bosch
with his progressive salsa and salsa "dura" showed that
he can jam and that his musicians have the liberty to improvise,
creating a powerful musical climate.
With
the Tito Puente anfitheatre full, and in spite of being a Thursday,
he delighted the public with the tunes, "Otra oportunidad"
from the album "Soneando el trombón"
continuing with "La cacharra" from the album
"Salsa dura". In the interpretation
of "Speak no evil" from his newest release,
Bosch put forth an impressive jam, demonstrating
clearly why he is currently the best trombone player around. Just
prior to this there was a musical dialogue in the brass section
with Angie Machado, Jeff Lederes, and Mauricio
Smith creating a nocturnal musical extasis.
The
interpretation by Ecuadorian Juan Rey Bayona was
excellent with tremendous diction and control of the art of the
"soneo". This young singer has great promise within
the salsa genre, which doesn't have too many good soneros these
days. |
En
los temas finales "Descargarana" y "Un
poquito más" se lució la virtuosidad del
timbalero Nicky Marrero imponiendo su maestría
en sendos solos llenos de clave y sabor para deleite de los presentes.
Nicky es uno de los mejores timbaleros en la
historia de la salsa y el jazz latino. Marrero
y Bosch dejaron la tarima encendida a tal grado
que sus sucesores de la noche, el grupo Spyro Gyra,
no pudieron superar.
Acompañaron
a Bosch excelentes músicos como: Rubén
Rodríguez en el bajo, Edwin Sánchez
en el piano, Jeff Lederer en el sax tenor, George
Delgado congas, Nicky Marrero timbales,
George Padilla bongó, Angie Machado
trompeta, Mauricio Smith flauta y saxofón
y Juan Rey Bayona vocal. |
In
the final songs, "Descargarana" and "Un
poquito más", Nicky Marrero showed
off his virtuosity on the Timbales with masterful solos full of
"clave" and "sabor", to
the delight of those present. Nicky is one of
the best timbaleros in the history of salsa and Latin Jazz.
Marrero and Bosch left the stage so
hot that the group that followed them that night, Spyro
Gyra, couldn't equal the heat.
Bosch
was accompanied by excellent musicians: Rubén Rodríguez
on the bass, Edwin Sánchez on piano, Jeff
Lederer on tenor sax, George Delgado
on congas, Nicky Marrero timbales, George
Padilla bongó, Angie Machado
trompet, Mauricio Smith flute and saxophone,
