Salsa
sparkled like a jewel Saturday September 14, 2002 at
the IDO World Salsa / Diamond Dancesport Championships
presented by Colin and Joy Hillary and Sam
Sodano at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex,
Orlando, Florida.
Thirty
couples representing sixteen international countries
competed. Dynamic music, such as Latin standards like
"Babalabatiri" and "Mambo Inn"
added fire as the dancers turned and spinned their way
to the quarter finals.
The
8 chosen couples performed their solo routines and competed
in the final heat dance-off. Costumes were a mixture
of glitz and street, some teams in rhinestones and glitter,
others in headbands and painted jeans. The audience roared
in approval for the winners Oslin Boekhoudt and
Janice Kock, Aruba, #11. Oslin with headwrap and
Janice wearing sweatpants, danced real street "get
down " swivel hips Salsa. It was a joy to watch!
